wellth

perhaps wellth is not something we spend our lives searching for. perhaps it is something we spend our lives learning to recognize.

people sometimes ask why i spell wellth with two l's.

for a long time,

i answered by saying it was more than wealth.

today,

i answer differently.

perhaps i spell it wellth because i want us to remember something the world so easily forgets.

that every person carries a richness no circumstance can erase.

money matters.

it helps us care for ourselves,

our families,

and our futures.

it creates choices.

it opens doors.

it allows us to build.

and yet,

i have come to recognize another kind of richness.

not one i can measure.

not one i can earn.

not one i can fully define.

only one i continue learning to recognize.

i recognize it

in the ways we continue loving.

in the questions we continue asking.

in the ways we remain human with one another.

in what our communities continue carrying,

even when life asks us to forget.

when i say wellth,

i am not asking anyone to define richness the way i do.

i am simply sharing where i have come to recognize it.

perhaps wellth is not something we spend our lives searching for.

perhaps it is something we spend our lives recognizing.

remembering.

protecting.

and carrying forward.

this is the wellth i have come to know.

peace be with you.
